Pierre Kosciusko-Morizet is an Internet entrepreneur, founder and former CEO of French e-commerce pioneer PriceMinister. After he sold Priceminister to Japanese internet giant Rakuten in 2010 for $350m, he became Rakuten Europe COO. He left Rakuten in 2014 so as to concentrate on his investments and new project.Pierre Kosciusko-Morizet is agraduate of the famous HEC Paris business school, where he studied entrepreneurship. He launched his first company, Visualis SA (a consultancy for the distribution sector), while still studying at HEC, with a €10,000 student loan. After graduating from HEC, Kosciusko-Morizet moved to the United States and became a manager in the marketing department of Finance Capital One, an internet-based credit card company. There he managed a team of 60 analysts, and specialised in the online credit and banking market. It was there that Kosciusko-Morizet saw a gap in the market. While websites existed in the United States linking buyers and sellers online, there was no equivalent site in France. He resigned from Finance Capital One and returned to France two weeks later to work on what would become PriceMinister with Pierre Krings, Olivier Mathiot, Nathalie Maurin and Justin Ziegler. In 2001 Priceminister launched and has grown into one of the largest and most successful e-commerce companies in France, currently employing around 200 passionate and dedicated staff.Pierre Kosciusko-Morizet is a former President of the ACSEL (Association of the Digital Economy) and of the ASIC (Association of Internet Community Services), and Chairman and main investor of the Strategic Committee of ISAI, the “French internet entrepreneurs fund”, that raised over $100m. Nicolas is a firm believer of “culture-first” companies and am focused on building just that at Algolia where team empowerment is how they accomplish their goals. Prior to co-founding Algolia with Julien, he spent over 12 years working on information retrieval at Exalead and Thales. At Algolia they believe every website and app deserves greatsearch! they offer a hosted Search API that helps developers deliver an instant and relevant search experience. We’ve seen that search is a great touch point to optimize – they regularly see double digit increases in engagement on sites when they improve their search UX.When they founded Algolia in 2012 it was originally going to be a local SDK for mobile app search. They changed direction and realized that they needed to offer search as a hosted SaaS service, but it was those early mobile optimizations that gave us their unique advantage. They are one of the few search solutions that has been developed from scratch, and they never would have gone that direction if they hadn’t originally been focused on mobile search. His focus has been first and foremost on making Algolia a great place to work. They have a unique culture here that values ownership as its pillar. They want to create a company where every team member takes initiative, gets out of their comfort zone, is empowered to make decisions; in short: be free to be their best.He is recently spoken at SaaStock on the challenges of running a company based in both Paris and San Francisco. His priority lately has been on scaling their growth and ramping up their team size.

Jacques-Antoine Granjon was born in Marseille on 9th August 1962 and studied at the prestigious European Business School (EBS). A born entrepreneur, he founded overstock distributer Cofotex S.A. with EBS friend Julien Sorbac in 1985. In 1996, Jacques-Antoine bought and renovated the former print works of national French newspaper Le Monde in LaPlaine Saint-Denis (93), just outside of Paris, setting up Oredis group HQ.In 2000, he and his business partners realised that the Internet was “an opportunity to welcome the world in a virtual store with digital catalogues”. This realization led to the creation of a revolutionary concept: an online platform entirely dedicated to flash sales for brands. In January 2001, Jacques-Antoine and his seven business partners launched vente-privee.com in France, before e-commerce had barely started in Europe. He then applied his extensive experience to the Internet, selling excess stock for important fashion and home brands, relying on two main strategies: events and exclusivity, all the while focusing on customer satisfaction. In 2012, he went on to win the “Customer Service Award” for the fourth year in a row, presented to him by the Institute BVA-Viséo Conseil, France’s fourth market research company. It was not until 2004 that the website’s success became apparent. In 2005, its turnover grew a staggering 500% from the previous year. The website is now available in 8 European countries (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, UK, Belgium and Austria, and the Netherlands) and the United States, in partnership with American Express. In 12 years, vente-privee.com has become an event-creating media, bringing together over 18 million members and 2.5 million unique users per day. This solid foundation allows the site to offer its 2,000 partner brands an innovative distribution channel.Jacques-Antoine Granjon’s professional success has been recognized with many awards. He was named ‘2011 Communication Personality of the Year’ by the Grand Prix des Agences de l’Année, ‘Personality of the Year’ by the Trophées LSA de l’Innovation 2011, ‘Innovator of the Year’ at the 2011 Technologies Numériques awards, ‘2011 Man of the Year’ by the Enseignes d’Or panel and ‘2010 Businessman of the Year’ by French GQ readers. Jacques-Antoine was also crowned ‘E-commerce Man of the Year’ by a panel of internet users at the E-commerce Magazine awards in 2007 then ‘Businessman of the Year’ at the BFM Awards in 2008. He also then went on to collect the European prize for ‘Chief Marketing Office of the year’, sponsored by Booz & Company, in 2009.
