- LightIntegra Technology — LightIntegra Technology is a privately funded medical diagnostics company and launched from the Canadian Blood Services R&D labs through the efforts of research scientist Dr. Elisabeth Maurer. LightIntegra strives to minimize platelet refractoriness. To this end, LightIntegra created ThromboLUX, a rapid in-vitro test that provides sizedistribution information for microparticles in blood products. As a routine test for platelet concentrates, ThromboLUX may identify which platelet units would be best suited for prophylaxis and which units are better suited for therapeutic use. Her years of research on platelet function led to a breakthrough discovery using dynamic light scattering to characterize platelets. Dr. Maurer recognized the opportunity to use this breakthrough - coupled with advances in laser and optics technology – to address a market need to provide a safe, quick and simple diagnostic test for microparticles, platelet quality and function.

- SADDL — SADDL is a mobile fitness application that combines the world of skill-based gaming with stationary exercise bikes—users can win prize money while getting fit. The application collects data from the bike via Bluetooth (power, cadence) and translates it to a racing environment on screen where users compete with one another from their respectivelocations. As fitness equipment has developed to become compatible with apps, the evolution of “connected” exercise experiences—to hardware and to community—has become possible. Initially available on the Keiser M3i and Echelon Smart Connect bike platforms, SADDL provides the users with a multitude of racing options: public racing competition, challenges with friends, and a training feature.Challenges let users select up to 9 friends to send a direct cash challenge and each of them have the option to accept or decline. Through an easy-to-use and intuitive user experience, they can select their race parameters including race title, entry fee, track, race distance, payout structure, and how long the participants have to complete their race. After all users have accepted the challenge the race opens for this predetermined amount of time, allowing participants to submit their times on their own schedule. Users that have submitted their times will show up on the screens of subsequent participants as “replay riders” for them to race against, creating an immersive and competitive asynchronous racing environment. Our public race technology will offer a similar but different user experience. Subscribers can register to enter a public race against unknown participants and must submit their time within the allotted duration or face a cash penalty. If they beat their personal time (shown as a replay rider on screen) then they are entitled to an evenly distributed portion of the cash penalties of those participants that failed to submit their time. These pieces of our technology come together to solve the customers’ demand for alternative fitness. By building this platform we put the power of competition in the users’ hands and they’ll be excited to see the results.
athlete, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.
