Birger Nergaard founded the firm in 1985 and was its managing partner through 2005.Having retired from his operational role in April 2008, Birger is today involved in the business through executive directorships on the General Partner companies serving funds V, VI, VII and VIII. He is also chairman at Verdane Capital III working alongsideGunnar Rydning with the remaining portfolio.Birger has been instrumental in bringing to the public market companies like Agresso, Stepstone, Infostream and Provida.Today he is a board member of Clarkson PLC which is listed on The London Stock Exchange. Furthermore he is a board member of Clarksons Platou Shipbroking AS and Clarksons Platou Securities AS. He is a member of the remuneration committee at Clarkson PLC.He is a board member of Marine& Merchant Bank and the holding company for Nets AS. Birger works together with Gunnar Rydning as an independent advisor for Advent International in Norway and the Nordics.Birger played an active role in the initiative to establish the Norwegian Venture Capital Association in 1987 and was the Associations first chairman. The Association was later restarted in 2001.In 2006, Birger was awarded His Majesty King Harald V’s Gold Medal for Achievement for pioneering the Norwegian venture capital industry.Birger has a law degree (cand. jur) from The University of Oslo, Faculty of Law.
