Barry Downes is the CEO of the Telecommunications Software and Systems Group (TSSG). In his role as CEO, Barry is responsible for strategic development of the TSSG, including: working with stakeholders such as industry, on their needs and requirements; leading the organisation to achieve it’s goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); and alsomanaging the sustainability and day to day running of the organisation.Barry is also responsible for commercialisation of the TSSG’s European Union (EU) and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) applied and basic research projects into technologies for industry and also new start-ups. Barry is also the Centre Director of the Mobile Services Technology Gateway (MSTG), a close to market mobile applications and platforms R&D initiative supported by Enterprise Ireland. MSTG delivers advanced mobile technologies and solutions to Enterprise Ireland and IDA clients. Barry brings considerable technical and entrepreneurial experience to these roles having previously founded FeedHenry a leading cloud based mobile applications platform based in Waterford, Ireland and Boston, MA, that was acquired by Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT) in October 2014 for $82 million.Barry holds a BSc. in Applied Computing from the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and a M.B.A. from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at University College Dublin (UCD).
