  • Unite — We started Unite because we saw a problem. Two problems, in fact. A problem faced by marketplace sellers like you, who see high- quality traffic on your pages but have no way of retargeting shoppers who don’t end up purchasing, leaving potential sales on the table. And a problem faced by the marketplaces where you sell, which win by helping youdrive sales but aren’t equipped to offer you the sorts of online advertising tools like retargeting pixels, audience creation, and campaign management platforms that big brands have been using for years. That’s where we come in. Understanding these constraints and sharing the frustration faced by both sellers and marketplaces over lost revenue and lost customers, we created the perfect platform to put the industry’s most powerful advertising technology capabilities in the hands of people like you, building them into the marketplaces where you already sell. The result? Higher traffic and higher conversion rates. In other words, higher sales.Today, thousands of sellers across the Internet are using Unite to advertise like a big brand and drive sales. It’s time to join them.

Nasir Jones
Angel · New York, New York, United States · 1 investments in Film startups

Nas, byname of Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, also called Nasty Nas, (born September 14, 1973, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.), American rapper and songwriter who became a dominant voice in 1990s East Coast hip-hop. Nas built a reputation as an expressive chronicler of inner-city street life.Nasir Jones, the son of a jazz musician, grew up in public housingin Queens, New York. He dropped out of school in the eighth grade and searched for a creative outlet, finally settling on hip-hop. His breakthrough came in 1992, when his song “Half Time” (credited to Nasty Nas) appeared on the sound track to the film Zebrahead. Columbia Records soon signed him to a contract. His debut recording as Nas, Illmatic (1994), drew widespread acclaim for its poetic narration of hard-edged inner-city life. The more pop-oriented approach of It Was Written (1996) helped that album reach an even wider audience than its predecessor but ignited a recurring tension in Nas’s career between the appetite of the pop audience and the demands of hip-hop purists. He maintained his commercial appeal with I Am... (1999), although by that time he had also become embroiled in a public feud with fellow rapper Jay-Z over which of the two was the preeminent voice in East Coast hip-hop. The schism inspired Stillmatic (2001), which many fans considered a return to form. The two rappers publicly settled their differences in 2005, and shortly thereafter Nas signed with Def Jam, of which Jay-Z was president at the time.Nas’s penchant for provocation marked Hip Hop Is Dead (2006) and an untitled follow-up (2008), while Life Is Good (2012) struck an introspective tone. He also notably collaborated with reggae musician Damian Marley (the youngest son of Bob Marley) on the album Distant Relatives (2010).Nas also made occasional film appearances, notably in Belly (1998), a crime drama in which he starred opposite rapper DMX, and Black Nativity (2013), an adaptation of Langston Hughes’s gospel play.

Steven Bochco
Angel · New York, New York, United States · 1 investments in Film startups

Steven Bochco is Director, Writer, Producer.Bochco went to work for Universal Pictures as a writer and then story editor on Ironside, Columbo, McMillan & Wife and the short-lived Lorne Greene and Ben Murphy series, Griff, as well as Delvecchio and The Invisible Man. He wrote the story and teleplay for Columbo: Murder by the book (1971) andthe teleplay only for several other episodes. He wrote the screenplay for the 1968 television movie The Counterfeit Killer and worked on Silent Running (1972) and Double Indemnity (1973). He left Universal in 1978 to go to MTM Enterprises where he had greater scope for producing. His first effort there was the short-lived CBS police drama Paris, notable as the first series on which James Earl Jones played a lead role.He achieved major success for NBC with the police drama Hill Street Blues. It ran from 1981 to 1987 and Bochco was credited as co-creator and also wrote and produced. The series also garnered considerable critical acclaim and many awards, and was nominated for a total of 98 Emmy Awards throughout its run. Bochco was fired from MTM in 1985 following the failure of Bay City Blues (1983).Bochco moved to 20th Century Fox where he co-created and produced L.A. Law (1986–1994) which aired on NBC. This series was also widely acclaimed and a regular award winner and achieved far higher ratings success than Hill Street Blues had enjoyed. In 1987, Bochco co-created the half-hour dramedy Hooperman which starred John Ritter but was canceled after two seasons, despite Bochco offering to take over direct day-to-day control of a third season. Hooperman was part of a lucrative deal with ABC in 1987 to create and produce ten new television series, which prompted Bochco to form Steven Bochco Productions.[4] From this deal came Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989–1993) and 1990's Cop Rock, which combined straight police drama with live-action Broadway singing and dancing. It was one of his most high-profile failures. In 1992, Bochco created an animated television series, Capitol Critters, along with Nat Mauldin and Michael Wagner.

Bill loves the process of starting and building great companies. In 1987 he started Avid Technology, Inc. They built a great product and a great team, and today Avid is the world leader in video, film, and music editing systems. In 1991 Bill started Wildfire Communications along with co-founders Nick d’Arbleloff, Rich Miner, and Tony Lovell. Theybuilt a ground-breaking speech-based electronic assistant that worked over the phone. Wildfire was sold to Orange, PLC in 2000.In 1999 Bill started FutureBoston which built advanced mapping tools that let you understand the story of a place by looking precisely aligned maps over time. This is now the Boston Atlas – a great online resource maintained by the Boston Redevelopment Authority. In 2002 he created a shared workspace called the Collaboration Space at Warner Research, in Cambridge, near Fresh Pond. Bill believes that shared workspaces are one key to creating the energy and relationships for startups. Now called the Brickyard Collaboration Space, it is run by the owner of the building.Starting in 2004, and continuing to today, he began work on a book about “How to Build Your Startup From the Heart.” This book is based on my experiences and on what he has learned from angel investing over the years. In 2008, Bill worked with Tom Hopcroft and Heather Johnson at MassTLC, they created a new type of conference focused on helping early stage entrepreneurs. Called the MassTLC Innovation unConference, the most recent event sponsored 160 entrepreneurs and gathered over 600 people to help them.Bill’s focus now is on helping entrepreneurs with tools that are part of my Build Your Startup From the Heart work. One of those tools is very early stage investing, usually about $25,000. He generally likes to be the very first money into the company. He is willing (and even prefer) investing so early that the only traction is in the entrepreneur’s head. Bill chooses his investments based mainly on the entrepreneur, and not on the details of the idea.
