Upside Energy reduces greenhouse gases by enabling people to make smart choices about when to use energy.Every flick of a switch is supported by a vast complex network delivering the power they need. Regardless of the time of day, season, other demands being made on it, it springs to their command. It’s also pretty brutal. To deliver thatenergy, it extracts millions of tonnes of fossil fuels. It emits greenhouse gases and other pollutants. It lays thousands of miles of wire and pylons across the countryside. It meets their demands regardless of the environmental consequences.Their vision is for a world where people use energy without damaging the environment. They want to build a world that delivers the energy they need, but in a way that respects the environment and wider society. They want a harmonious energy system, not a discordant one. So we’re building a service that orchestrates elements of the energy system so that their demands fit a little more cleanly with what the environment can deliver.Founded in 2013 by Dr Graham Oakes, Matt Potts, Matt Fisher and Andy Molineux, Upside has grown and they are now a team of 12 people based in Salford and London. About SYSTEMIQ

VC Fund · London, United Kingdom

Through their own investment vehicle, SYSTEMIQ supports disruptive early-stage digital/technology ventures with the potential to transform systems in the circular economy, energy and land use sectors. They support asset-light models (SaaS, platforms, marketplaces and tools) and targeted IP-driven asset-light hardware innovation withsignificant scale potential.Their sweet spot is $1-2m of initial investment in Seed/Series A rounds. They act as an active minority investor by deploying a combination of capital and talent to 'de-risk' the companies they invest in, accelerate their commercialisation and position them for further fundraising and greater scale.
