After business school at Thunderbird, he co-founded the international division for Accent Service, one of the largest American collection agencies, and builtnew business units in Mexico City, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro.The work led him to the world of global payments and a career transition to Visa, where he spent eight years in Visa’s venture capital program, focusing on investments in ecommerce, security, and authentication. At Visa, Tom led investments in Zone Labs (acquired by Checkpoint), NextPage (acquired by Fast Search and Transfer), Vericept (acquired by Trustwave) and Inside Secure (IPO).Tom left Visa as the interim head of ventures and started a new chapter in his career in the insurance industry when he joined The Hartford in 2008. At The Hartford, Tom reestablished Hartford Ventures as the leading corporate venture program in the insurance industry while also managing a diverse portfolio of investments through the financial crisis. He served as a board observer for Insurance.com (acquired) and led new early stage investments in Driverside (acquired) and Coulomb Technologies.From Hartford Ventures, Tom joined BBVA Ventures as a Managing Director where he helped launch BBVA's corporate venture program as an early entrant into the rapidly rising Fintech sector. Tom was instrumental in spinning out BBVA Ventures into Propel Venture Partners as a co-founder of Propel's $250M venture fund. While at Propel Tom led early stage investments into Hippo Insurance, Kasisto, Taulia, Covered Insurance and Hixme. A dedicated family man, Tom likes to fly-fish and golf when he’s not looking for and working with entrepreneurs.
