Rich Gill
Fund Manager @ Oxford Angel Fund
San Francisco, United States
Rich Gill is a private equity investor at Oxford Angel Fund in San Francisco focused on Retirement and Wealth Management. I'm an investor in and advisor to wealth management firms. I'm interested in how people interact with money, who they choose to rely on, and the kinds of advice they value. Financial services - with all its choices, conflicts, and complexity - is endlessly fascinating to me.After starting my career in investment banking and privateequity I went to work for Charles Schwab, where I learned what "Registered Investment Advisors" are and what a custodian does for them. From there I joined Focus Financial Partners in its very early days. I built out the breakaway business for Focus, identifying and leading investments in teams bringing their clients out of large wirehouses (i.e., big Wall Street banks such as Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, etc.) to start their own firm. This meant tackling all the challenges associated with investing in businesses that don't really exist yet. As part of that business line I also created and hired the operational support team. Working with large breakaway teams to build RIAs from scratch was a great way to get perspective on all the various technology components that drive money movement, trading, reporting, and financial planning. After almost eight years at Focus I left to lead wealth management investments for AMG Wealth Partners where I stayed for three years investing in some of the largest and most successful RIAs in the country. Today I am a Partner and Co-Founder at Wealth Partners Capital Group. We've invested in three of the best RIA firms in the country: EP Wealth Advisors, Forbes Family Trust, and MAI Capital Management. Through those three "Anchor" firms - representing ~$11B in client assets - we acquire small wealth management firms across the country.I also frequently act as an advisor to firms that serve the wealth management market and venture capitalists evaluating investments in the space. If you are working on something new and interesting in my little corner of the world, I'm always happy to chat.
