The current portfolio, now over 50 investments, is well diversified across a base of parameters including strategy, geography, vehicle and sub-asset class.Infrastructure investments continued to perform well in 2013, returning 11.8% net of external management fees, on an IRR basis, which is above the infrastructure benchmark return of 6% (CPI + 5%). Since the portfolio’s inception in 2006, OPTrust’s infrastructure investments have generated an average net annual return of 16.6% compared to 6.1% for the portfolio benchmark.Private equity holdings generated a net return of 11% for the year on an IRR basis, below the benchmark return of 24.6% which was exceptionally high due to very strong public markets performance.
