Aleva Neurotherapeutics develops the next generations of implantable Deep Brain Stimulation systems, based on a MEMS technology. Our unique microfabricated devices enable Target Specific Stimulation and optimization of current therapies. They will also permit targeting new areas of the brain and the measurement of neurophysiological activity, translating into faster, more certain surgical placement of electrode leads. The first application will be in Deep Brain Stimulation for indications such as Parkinson's Disease and Essential Tremor. To maximize the value it can capture from its technology, Aleva intends to develop a series of two therapeutic products, while eliminating technological and clinical development risks at each stage. Our first product, directSTIM, an intelligent directional electrode connected to a best-in-class Deep Brain Stimulation system, has successfully completed an acute clinical trial at the Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland. It is currently further developped for a long term use.Aleva has been was founded in 2008 in Lausanne, Switzerland. Hookipa Biotech is a clinical stage company developing next-generation immunotherapies for infectious diseases and cancer using novel proprietary arenavirus vector platforms. Hookipa´s TheraT® and Vaxwave® platforms have shown promising abilities to elicit high neutralizing antibody responses, but also necessary levels of T cell responses, currently missing in most vaccine and therapeutic approaches. Hookipa’s vectors are not impeded by vector-neutralizing antibodies and can be administered repeatedly, providing even greater immune protection. Levels of specific T cells generated by TheraT® are unprecedented in the field and have the potential to transform active immune-therapy in cancers. Hookipa has completed the active phase of a Phase 1 trial of a Vaxwave®-based vaccine against cytomegalovirus (CMV) and is finalizing clinical development plans for TheraT® in Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)- related head and neck cancers. $60M / Series C / Dec 11, 2017

ImevaX is a biopharmaceutical company founded in 2014 based in Munich, Germany. The focus is to combat chronic and nosocomial infections by creating specific vaccines. The company’s lead candidate IMX 101 is a vaccine against Helicobacter pylori, which colonizes the stomach and is the cause of ulcer disease and gastric cancer in humans. FounderMarkus Gerhard and his team discovered that the colonization ability (and hence, the infectiousness) of H. pylori depends on a secreted bacterial factor that down-regulates the host immune system. Many other highly infectious pathogens have evolved similar immune evasion mechanisms, which are the focus of the ImevaX screening program. $8.2M / Series A / Oct 28, 2014
