She conducted the first andlargest study of women entrepreneurs in the early 1980s, resulting in one of the earliest books on the topic. Her research catalyzed many studies and dissertations worldwide. Prof. Brush is a founding member of the Diana Project, a research collaborative of scholars from 25 countries studying growth and financing strategies of women entrepreneurs world-wide. With her four co-researchers, she was named the 2007 recipient of the FSF- Swedish Research Foundation International Award for Outstanding Research Contributions in the Field of Entrepreneurship. Prentice Hall- Financial Times published their book, Clearing the Hurdles: Women Building High Growth Businesses (2004).Other research investigates angel investing, organization of nascent ventures, and resource strategies of growing ventures. Prof. Brush is the author of seven books, 20 book chapters and 90 articles published in scholarly journals. Her research is published in both management and entrepreneurship journals including Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Management, Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Small Business Management and Strategic Management Journal. Professor Brush's research is often featured in noted popular media including the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe and Inc. She is an Editor for Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and serves on four other editorial review boards. She has written book chapters for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the International Labor Organization (ILO) on women's entrepreneurship and economic development
