Steve Rattner is the Chairman and CEO of Willett Advisors LLC, which manages the personal and philanthropic assets of Michael Bloomberg. He is also a Contributing Writer for the New York Times and makes frequent appearances on MSNBC's Morning Joe as the show's Economic Analyst. In 2009, Mr. Rattner was notably appointed by the Obamaadministration to act as lead adviser to the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry, and in this role led the effort to restructure the automobile industry. Rattner gave a detailed account of his experience in this role in his book, Overhaul: An Insider's Account of the Obama Administration's Emergency Rescue of the Auto Industry.Before February 2009, Mr. Rattner was a Managing Principal of Quadrangle Group LLC focused on the firm's $2.9 billion media and communications private equity business. Prior to the formation of Quadrangle Group in 2000, Mr. Rattner was Deputy Chairman and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Lazard Frères & Co. LLC. Mr. Rattner founded Lazard's Media and Communications Group and was involved in many of the largest and most important transactions in these industries. Mr. Rattner, who joined Lazard in 1989 as a General Partner, was previously a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where he also founded the Communications Group. Mr. Rattner is active in many philanthropic organizations. He is Chairman of the Educational Broadcasting Corporation (Channels 13 and 21, New York's public television stations) and the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, a Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brookings Institution and the New America Foundation and a Fellow of Brown University. He is also a member of the Council of Foreign Relations.
Mr. Rattner holds a B.A. with honors in economics from Brown University and was awarded the Harvey Baker Fellowship. He is married to Maureen White, a former official in the State Department, and they have four children.
