Barry received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1969 and an undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1966, where he majored in Latin American studies. He is a chartered financial analyst. Barry is active in numerous nonprofit institutions. Currently, he serves as a director/ trustee of TechnoServe, Trickle-Up and the Kucetekela Foundation. He was a trustee of Princeton-in-Africa from 2004 to 2007.
