Prior to Illumina, Suresh held marketing roles of increasing responsibility at Applied Biosystems (now Life Technologies), engineering positions at NASA’s Ames Research Center and management positions in the chemicals industry. Suresh has a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma and an M.B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley Haas School of Business.
