Mike Boyle is a startup investor at Ecliptic Capital in Austin. Mike Boyle has over 30 years of experience in financial services, M&A, and private equity both as a board member and a C-suite technology executive. He also has two decades of advisory, investing and executive experience with startups focused on venture financing, business development, operations, and market strategy. Most recently, Mr. Boyleserved as a board member of Pronto Insurance, helping to build value in the franchise by making key competitive acquisitions to expand its footprint to 80% of the total addressable market. Pronto completed a successful exit to insurance brokerage AJ Gallagher in the summer of 2018 through a collaboration between Palladium Private Equity and the Pronto Board. Mr. Boyle’s startup experience is both operational and advisory. He served as the CEO of AppBus from 2015 to 2017. AppBus is a software provider that developed an enterprise platform to integrate legacy applications via microservices and RESTful APIs to any corporate or mobile device. Under his leadership AppBus won the Accenture NY FinTech Innovation Lab competition. AppBus has completed sales to JPMC, Fidelity Investments, US Bank and other major companies. Mr. Boyle played an integral role in business development for the company, forging key channel partnerships with Accenture and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mr. Boyle also co-founded Sempulse in 2015, a medical device startup that’s developing new technologies for rapid triage in the field. In addition to his operational roles, Mr. Boyle has led an advisory business to help startups with financing, strategy, business development, and operational scalability. Mr. Boyle’s enterprise record is primarily in financial services, particularly investment banking and insurance. As Merrill Lynch’s Director of Technology, Mr. Boyle managed technology projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He then served as CIO/COO for Robertson Stephens Investment Bank, CIO for AFLAC, and CIO/COO for Allstate’s financial services businesses, overseeing operating budgets in excess of $100 million and large global deliverables in all of these roles. Over the course of his career in the enterprise, Mr. Boyle participated in numerous M&A transactions. He has conducted both due diligence and managed resulting integrations and divestitures for over 20 years. He volunteers with Bunker Labs mentoring veterans who want to become entrepreneurs. He is active with MassChallenge as a judge and a mentor. He also serves on the board of the Austin Blues Revue and serves as both a judge for the Digital Interactive competition and as a Stage Manager for the SXSW music festival.
