In recent years, in particular, he has significant experience in the economy of public data (open data), becoming a scholar recognized in the European scene. Compared to these issues, Michael is involved in numerous national and international projects, developed in both the public and private sectors.At the academic level, Michael is a professor of international programs within postgraduate treated by the Politecnico di Torino in collaboration with ISMB and the United Nations.Course topics include innovation management, strategy and business models. Finally, he is frequently invited as a speaker at international events and courses for professionals.Michele Osella’s educational background entails a BSc in Business Organization Engineering (2007), followed by a MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management (2010) with a major in ICT Management. In 2013 he received a PhD in Management, Production and Design by defending a doctoral dissertation on crowdsourcing models for harnessing collective intelligence in distributed problem solving systems going beyond the traditional boundaries of organizations. All afore-mentioned degrees were conferred by the Politecnico di Torino. Furthermore, Michele is a Microsoft Certified Professional and he holds the Italian Professional Engineering License.Within ISMB, he serves as head of Business Model & Policy Innovation Research Unit, a multidisciplinary team studying economic, social and policy implications of ICTs. In his daily job, Michele supports – through the coordination of research activities that lie at the intersection of innovation management, technology and policy – public and private decision makers in using ICTs as leverage to favor sustainable development and economic competitiveness.Prominent strands of personal research on which Michele is focused are business model innovation, smart city economics and finance, Internet economics, and social computing. In recent years, in particular, he has gained a considerable expertise in the open data economy, becoming a distinguished scholar at European level. Taking into account such scientific areas, he is currently involved in a number of national and international projects developed both in private and public sectors.In the academic sphere, Michele is Adjunct Lecturer in international master programs offered by the Politecnico di Torino in collaboration with ISMB and United Nations. Main subjects taught are innovation management, strategy, and business modeling. In addition, he is regularly invited as speaker in international events and professional courses
