Matt Johnson is a venture capitalist and business professor with a passion for backing exceptional entrepreneurs and building the Southeast's startup ecosystem. He’s the Managing Partner at Johnson Venture Partners (JVP), an Atlanta-based micro VC fund focused on seed and early-stage startups. At JVP, Matt leads deal sourcing, due diligence,portfolio support, and fund operations—having invested in over 40 startups across 15+ years in early-stage venture. Matt is active with Atlanta Technology Angels and VentureSouth and serves on the Venture Atlanta selection committee—helping spotlight the Southeast’s most promising companies at one of the nation’s premier startup events. He’s also a Founding Partner of Fund That Tiger, an early-stage venture fund investing in Clemson University alumni-led startups. Matt is a frequent lecturer and panelist on startup investing, entrepreneurship, and innovation and has served as a board member and advisor to multiple high-growth companies. Outside of venture, Matt is a faculty member at Thomas University in his hometown of Thomasville, GA, where he teaches business courses and designs entrepreneurial education programs. Matt holds both a BA and MBA from Clemson University, where he has also lectured in entrepreneurship.
