Leon Papu is a startup investor at Marathon Ventures in Bogotá. Leon is a Founding Partner at Marathon, an early stage Venture Capital fund that invests in Latin America. Prior to Marathon, Leon was the CEO of Tensteel International, a steel brokerage firm based in Bogota, Colombia. Tensteel represents JSW Steel and other steel manufacturers in Spanish speaking Latin America. At Tensteel, Leon aided in managingand growing the commercial pipeline in Colombia and the rest of Latin America, while personally managing the Mexican, Central American and Caribbean markets. In parallel, Leon began investing in Colombia and, eventually, the US and Europe alongside Alejandro Echavarria as strategic angels. Our approach to investing has always been hands on; sitting on the board or serving as an advisor to several of the portfolio companies, and taking active roles in business development, fundraising and growth. Our shared angel portfolio includes Mensajeros Urbanos, Kushki, SuperFuds, Beacon, Trackonomy and EquipmentShare. Leon has been active on an individual basis as well, investing as an angel in US-based startups, such as Laws of Motion, Strive and EBY. Leon received a B.A. from Babson College.
