Jonathan has worked as an intellectual property attorney, prosecuting patents, filing trademarks and copyrights and negotiating licenses for startup companies and established corporations alike.In 2008, after becoming the Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of a social networking website, FanFound, Jonathan realized traditional intellectualproperty and business law firms failed to meet the needs of modern business.In 2010, Jon co-founded what was to become the Midwest's largest technology & innovation conference, Techweek, with over 2,500 attendees in 2011. He has also co-founded Data 2.0, Inc., which produces the Data 2.0 Summit (500+ attendees), the DataWeek Conference & Festival (1,000+ attendees) and the DeveloperWeek Conference & Festival (1,000+ attendees) in San Francisco. In 2011, Jon was named to Crain's Chicago Business' Tech 25. His goal is to educate and provide entrepreneurs on the necessity and benefits of robust intellectual property protection and utilization while operating with the agility and expertise that the business world demands.Experienced in both offensive and defensive intellectual property asset management, Jonathan works with clients to protect their intellectual property as well as minimize defensive litigation. When a dispute arises, he uses effective negotiation and conflict resolution to secure the best outcome for his client (and if the other side is also pleased, all the better for everyone’s business goals).Successful patent prosecution requires technical knowledge and legal expertise. Successful negotiation requires persuasive oral advocacy and effective writing skills.Jonathan received his B.S.E.E. from Valparaiso University and was published in the Journal of Applied Physics for his undergraduate research in nontechnology. Jonathan also has J.D. from Valparaiso University where he was an active member of the Moot Court Board and won Best Oralist at the Swegert Moot Court Competition.
