Earlier, he held leadership positions at Forrester Research, Navient Corporation, and SNL Financial.Breen holds a B.A. degree in physics as well as astronomy and astrophysics from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. degree in astronomy from the University of Virginia. While working as an astronomer earlier in his career, he published and contributed to papers in The Astrophysical Journal, Science and various conference proceedings.
