UOB was granted approval by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to adopt the Internal Ratings-Based Approach in 2008 – a reflection of UOB’s robust risk management process. Internationally, he is called upon to share his expertise on Basel II IRB processes in forums and as a consultant.He is the Chairman and a Director of the Board of the Singapore Chapter of the Risk Management Association (RMA) in the United States. The principle objective of the RMA Singapore Chapter is to promote sound credit and risk management practices. Mr Phua also teaches customised risk management courses and the Specialist Diploma in Credit Risk Management – Corporate Banking at the Risk Management Institute (RMI), National University of Singapore (NUS). He also conducts credit risk training for banks in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Laos, Myanmar, Taiwan and Vietnam.In addition, he shares his perspectives and experiences at various international risk management conferences such as those organised by RiskMinds – the world’s largest risk management conference , the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, The International Association of Credit Portfolio Managers and NUS RMI. Before joining UOB, Mr Phua spent more than 10 years as a corporate and investment banker at a number of international banks.Mr Frankie was conferred the IBF Fellow Award in Risk Management by the Institute of banking & Fiance in Singapore. The IBF Fellow award recognises industry veterans who have demonstrated mastery of a profession and exemplify thought leadership and commitment to industry development.
