Douglas Rosenthal is a research scientist in the field of biology. Rosenthal was born and lives in Cleveland, Ohio. Rosenthal holds a Bachelor’s, Masters’s and PhD in Biology from the Case Western Reserve University.During the period between 1991 and 1994, Rosenthal did postdoctoral research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the MRC Laboratory ofMolecular Biology at the University of Cambridge In 1995 he started making researches in the field of biology, in affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic - Lerner Research Institute.Rosenthal started serving as a professor at the Cleveland Institute for Computational Biology in 2005. Doug Rosenthal has also done a number of researches affiliated with this university. He became a member of the Cleveland Center for Membrane and Structural Biology (CCMSB) in 2015.When making his research studies, he relies on molecular structures from electron microscopy (EM), x-ray crystallography, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Rosenthal’s research studies have been featured in many scientific journals.He has been conducting research studies of the molecules that form cells and pathogens. Rosenthal focuses on how pathogens infect and cause disease by producing virulence factors that target host cell molecules. Some of Rosenthal’s studies have contributed to the understanding of the cytoskeleton, organelles and membrane-trafficking intermediates, signal transduction pathways, cell cycle regulators, the organelle/protein recycling machinery, and cell-death pathways. Moreover, his studies have revealed cellular pathways that are crucial for the immune response. The discoveries from Rosenthal studies have been used in the development of host-targeted therapies to treat infectious diseases.Moreover, he has authored two books: Atomic Evidence and The Body’s Motors.
