He is the Chairman of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Council. He is a Director at Energy Studies Institute. He is a Director of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. He is a Member of Nanyang Business School Advisory Board. He was conferred the Public Service Star Award (BBM) in August 2004. Mr. Choo holds Bachelor of Science (1st Class Honors) in 1970 (awarded the Colombo Plan Scholarship to study Naval Architecture) and Master of Science degree in Naval Architecture from University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He attended the Programme for Management Development in Harvard Business School in 1982 and the Wharton Fellows Programme in The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003. He was conferred Doctor of Civil Law by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2009.
