Chalinda Abeykoon
Managing Partner @ nVentures
Chalinda Abeykoon is a startup investor at nVentures. I believe that financial independence is the purest form of empowerment. And entrepreneurship is an ethical means of unlocking that independence. I worked on launching the first government-funded incubator. In four years, I helped launch 30 startups that have now grown to become successful ventures. Today, the incubator is the oldest runningprogramme and has supported over 100 startups. I then joined a team that launched the first accelerator in Sri Lanka. We were early to market and could only record one startup success. But learned to think like an entrepreneur and fell in love with building scalable startups. As entrepreneurship was taking off, I went on to solve problems surrounding access to capital. I spent three years building an equity crowdfunding platform. Here I learned to think like an investor and fell in love with investing in early-stage startups. In 2020, I joined a team of industry veterans to raise Sri Lanka's first micro VC fund. The fund was raised amidst the pandemic and backed by 100 investors. I was responsible for every aspect of the fund and led the investments into four startups. On July 2022, I joined a group of like-minded people in establishing a fund. We're licensed and regulated by the Monitory Authority of Singapore. As entrepreneurs, we have built products users love & cultures where people thrive. More importantly, we know how to build and scale a startup towards an exit. We understand the pain of entrepreneurship better than most! And now, it's time to give back. Through all these adventures, I've mentored over 3,000 entrepreneurs from all walks of life. I've raised capital from investors around the world for startups as well as funds. I've helped build closer to 50 startups, leading strategy, execution, and growth. My focus has been on developing and growing the Sri Lankan startup ecosystem. But in the last couple of years, I've expanded my work across South and Southeast Asia. I currently concentrate on funding early-stage startups. I enjoy spending my time meeting daring entrepreneurs and learning from their curiosities. My goal is to help them become investor-ready; by planning their fundraising goals. I use my specific skills and experiences to work with people with high intelligence, energy, and integrity. Together, we can make the world a little more human and kind.
