In 2001, Barbara assumed the role of Head of Retail Banking and Marketing for ASB, and was responsible for the Bank’s sales and service strategy, personal banking performance, marketing, branding, sponsorship and public relations.She was New Zealand’s inaugural ‘Marketer of the Year’ and has received numerous awards for innovative and effective marketing throughout her career.In 2004, Barbara moved into the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sovereign Assurance, where she was responsible for the overall performance of that entity.She joined the Commonwealth Bank in July 2006 as Group Executive, Human Resources and Group Services, being responsible for the Group’s Human Resources, Marketing and Communications functions.Barbara is a former Chair of Oxfam New Zealand and a former Director of Oxfam International. She was also an inaugural Trustee of the New Zealand Equal Opportunities Trust and its Chair for several years. Barbara is an inaugural member of the “25 Percent Group” which aims to improve diversity at senior management levels and within New Zealand boardrooms.
