Antero Vartia is a former Finnish MP and the founder of Compensate, a non-profit built to empower individuals and businesses to combat climate change. The thought Antero wanted to bring forth was that every person should be allowed to take responsibility for their own emissions. Exactly like a person is responsible for cleaning up after themselveswhen they make a mess. That is why Compensate was founded, to make the carbon impact of goods and services visible to each of us in our everyday life. Although informing and offsetting is an essential part of Compensate, the foundation is really about making a change. The change Antero and Compensate want to create is a systemic one. To make compensating a natural part of everyone’s life and make it feel like it is what we always should have done. The change in the way of thinking is what is needed to save the planet from the most drastic effects of climate change.
