Adrian returned to New York in 2002 in PIA and was named managing director later that year. He was named partner in 2004.Following his cadetship at the Irish Military College, Adrian was commissioned in 1983 as a lieutenant in the Irish Army, where he served until 1989. From 1987 to 1988, Adrian served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Southern Lebanon.After moving to the United States in 1989, he worked for two years at the Bank of Boston in Credit Derivatives. In addition to representing GS Capital Partners on a number of corporate boards, Adrian serves on the boards of Autism Speaks, The American Ireland Fund and the Galway University Foundation. Adrian earned a BA in Economics and Politics from University College, Galway, in 1986, an MA in Economics from University College, Dublin, in 1989 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1994.
